Why do we need that little tank above our water heaters?That little tank is a thermal expansion tank and it is a keycomponent to keeping your home or business safe shouldthings go awry with your water heater. When water is heated, themolecules move rapidly and bounce off each other, taking up morespace (aka “expanding”). This can often times exceed the volume ofyour water heater tank, so the “extra” goes into the thermalexpansion tank, keeping your water heater from exploding. It’s areminder to be thankful for the little things in life!
