When people think about plumbing, they often think about PVC pipe. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) as a material was first discovered in the1800s, but was not developed into the plastic we know today until 1913 when Friedrich Heinrich August Klatte registered his patent. Even then, PVC was not used in plumbing until the 1980s when the construction industry started utilizing it because of it’s ability to resist light, corrosion, chemicals, and temperature changes. Plus, with it’s lighter weight, PVC has helped change the way homes are built.
