Bringing plumbing indoors...

Did you know that indoor plumbing in our home state of Georgiahas been around since the early 1800s? You can tour the Owens-Thomas house in Savannah and see the remaining evidence of thegravity fed plumbing system used to supply water to the house.Gutters collected rainwater into cisterns supplying water to multiplesinks, toilets, bathtubs, and a shower. Yes, you did read the word“cistern,” which means the structure of the house had to supporthundreds of gallons of water on each level. Amazing for a housebuilt in 1819! Thankfully, we don’t have to rely on rainwater todayfor our plumbing systems!
